Prof. Dr. Selçuk Peker


Dr. Peker received his medical degree from Hacettepe University and completed his residency in Neurosurgery at the same institution in 1993. Following clinical appointments in Ankara, Alanya, and Istanbul, he joined the Department of Neurological Surgery at Marmara University in May 1999, where he was later appointed Chief of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery.

He completed a Gamma Knife radiosurgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and additional fellowships in pain surgery and movement disorder surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University. In 2005, Dr. Peker joined the Acıbadem Healthcare Group, where he served as Professor of Neurosurgery at Acıbadem University. He was the Director of the Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Center and the Movement Disorder Surgery Program.

In 2017, Dr. Peker joined the Department of Neurosurgery at Koç University. He served as Chair between 2019-2025. He leads the Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Center and the Movement Disorder Surgery Program.
His work in stereotactic radiosurgery encompasses a broad range of indications, including cerebral vascular malformations, benign and malignant brain tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, and epilepsy. He performs both lesioning and deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgeries for movement disorders. Since 1999, he has personally treated more than 15,000 patients using Gamma Knife radiosurgery. His experience spans multiple Gamma Knife models, including Models U, B, 4C, Perfexion, Icon, and Esprit.

Dr. Peker has served as President of the Turkish Neuromodulation Society. He is a panel member of the EANS Radiosurgery Section, a former member of the EANS Individual Members Committee, and currently serves as Chair of the Radiosurgery and Functional Neurosurgery Committee of the SEENS. Between 2023-2025, he served as a Board Member for Audit and Governance at the EANS. He is also a current Board Member of the ISRS. Since 2025 he is co-chairman of WFNS Radiosurgery Committee.

He is pursuing a PhD at Maastricht University, focusing on radiosurgery for skull base tumors.
Under his leadership, the Koç University Gamma Knife Center became an Elekta Reference Center and was certified by the ISRS in 2022. In 2024, the center was also recognized as an Elekta Care Learning Partner.
Dr. Peker has authored 265 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has delivered 244 presentations at national and international scientific meetings and has given 376 invited lectures as a guest speaker or visiting professor. His h-index is 22 (Web of Science) and 31 (Google Scholar).
